LOS CAPRICHOS MUSICALES DE COMILLAS, CLASSICAL MUSIC CYCLE

The 21st edition of the Caprichos Musicales Festival in Comillas will take place from July 18 to August 4.

Nine days that span from masterpieces of Romanticism to contemporary melodies of jazz and tango.

The festival will kick off on July 18 at the Church of the Pontifical University, featuring the concert “El virtuosismo camerístico” performed by Oncam, the Sierra Norte de Madrid chamber orchestra, composed of fourteen virtuoso musicians, under the baton of the principal and artistic conductor, Serguei Mesropian. It will run until August 4, 2024, and will conclude with a performance by the Fernando Egozcue Ensemble featuring the program “Nuevos tangos y Jazz contemporáneo” at the El Espolón Cultural Center.

Nine nights of magic! On Thursday, July 18, the inaugural concert will take place at the Church of the Pontifical University with “El virtuosismo camerístico” featuring works by F. Schubert, E. Grieg, D. Shostakovich, C. Saint-Saëns, and G. Puccini. Additionally, the same venue will host “Del romanticismo tardío, hacia el Siglo XX” the following day and “Las 8 Estaciones: Vivaldi&Piazzola” on Saturday, July 20.

The festival will continue on July 22 at the El Espolón Cultural Center with “El Violín Rojo y otros éxitos de música para cine” featuring visual projections. Meanwhile, on Saturday, July 27, there will be a tribute to G. Puccini, marking the 100th anniversary of his death, the visionary of opera, creator of “La Bohème,” “Tosca,” and other iconic operas.

In August, Thursday the 1st will provide an opportunity to discover the young talents of Cantabria with pianist Ruzan Badalian; on Friday the 2nd, the audience can enjoy music of Andalusian and Sephardic tradition, with songs from the Romancero in “Sephardica.” As the cycle nears its end, Saturday the 3rd will feature “Flamenco Machado,” where the life of the poet will be remembered through poetry and music.

On Sunday the 4th, the twenty-first edition will conclude with Fernando Egozcue Ensemble, showcasing New Tango and Contemporary Jazz. The usual time for these musical proposals will be at 9:00 PM, with limited capacity and access on a first-come, first-served basis as seating is unnumbered.
